What do you do to maintain your resilience? We added this question to our recent resident interviews. As I asked the question to the young eager candidates, I thought to myself, what am I doing to maintain my resilience? In a recent survey done in our health system, resilience concerns turned up in five of the top ten work satisfaction issues and made up the top three concerns. I find that to improve the work/life balance for my team members, I, at times, put my own life out of balance. Taking an inventory of how you are doing is a good way to maintain your ability to be resilient. For me, taking some time off to work on projects at home helps build me up and I find when I come back to the hospital, I can take on challenges with new energy and have a better outlook.
Another way I recharge is through my involvement in ASHP. Working towards a common goal, our Section Advisory Groups (SAG), Educational Steering Committee (ESC), and Executive Committee have provided me with many energy boosts over the past year. It’s now time for those teams to renew and for those interested in serving to apply. The survey for new applicants or renewing membership in our SAGs and ESC is now available. Make sure the April 1st deadline is on your calendar. This opportunity to apply to become involved in the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners is only available once a year.
We are excited to introduce a new SAG on Compounding Practice as we finish the final year of the Advancing Pharmacy Practice with Technicians (APPT) SAG. As the Pharmacy Technician Forum was formed, we found many of the goals and charges overlapped with our APPT SAG and the Executive Committee felt it would be best for just one group to lead these efforts. The new Compounding Practice SAG will form and have new charges to work on to advance compounding practice issues for our section members. We want to thank Laura Herbrechtsmeier and Kathleen Hidalgo for their strong leadership with the APPT SAG over the past year.
This is also the time of year to nominate a colleague whose volunteer activities have supported the mission of the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. The Distinguished Service Award (DSA) nomination survey is open until April 1st. The recipient will be recognized with at the 2019 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. Our 2018 DSA Award recipient for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners was Joanne Kowiatek.
I look forward to upcoming ASHP events to boost my resilience including the Regional Delegates Conference and ASHP Strategic Planning Retreat in April and the ASHP Summer Meetings in June. Hopefully I will get to meet with many of you at one of these upcoming events.
