ASHP MEMBER SINCE 1993

Neil MacKinnon, M.Sc. (Pharm.), B.Sc. (Pharm.), Ph.D., grew up in a small town where the pharmacist played a key role in the community. “I saw firsthand that pharmacists are important health professionals, and they play critical roles in the social fabric of many communities,” he said.

As a Professor and Dean at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy at the University of Cincinnati, Neil encourages his students to find their true passion “by identifying the aspect of pharmacy practice that truly engages them.”

Neil joined ASHP in 1993 while he was completing a residency program in hospital administration at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. “Two past presidents of ASHP were in that department, and they left a huge impression on me,” he said.

His most memorable ASHP moment was winning the ASHP Foundation Award for Best Student Paper. “I received the award in front of thousands of people at the ASHP Midyear meeting in New Orleans,” said Neil. “It was my first time receiving face makeup and using a teleprompter.”

Neil has served on several Section Advisory Groups over the years and is currently a member of the ASHP Council on Education and Workforce Development.
