Andrew’s Story

I received my Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Mississippi, and then completed a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. The clinical experiences during my residency adequately prepared me for direct patient care, and have allowed me to advance my career as a practitioner and teacher. I credit one of my main mentors, Phil Ayers, for leading me to pursue residency training and the practice of nutrition support.

Specialty

I am a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Mississippi Baptist Health Systems in Jackson, Mississippi. My practice site is a 500+ bed Joint Commission accredited non-profit comprehensive medical center. I am also a Clinical Assistant Professor for the University of Mississippi, School of Pharmacy.

Role

I currently serve on Baptist’s Nutrition Support, Inpatient Diabetes Management, Anticoagulation, and Pharmacokinetics Teams. I precept IPPE and APPE students from the University of Mississippi, and I also facilitate Problem Based Learning (Pharmacotherapy) for PY3 pharmacy students. I am also a member of Baptist’s Institutional Review Board, Emergency Room Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and Nursing Practice Council.

Other Professional Activities

My contributions to ASHP include serving as a member of the New Practitioners Forum Membership and Outreach Advisory Group, Curriculum Vitae Review Program, and Local Clinical Skills Competition Judge. I also serve the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition as Self-Assessment Committee Chair, Enteral Nutrition Practice Recommendations Task Force Team Leader, and Clinical Nutrition Week Monitoring Committee Member

I maintain a high level of activity with state professional organizations. I am the current Central Region Vice President for the Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP), and have served MSHP as Public Relations Co-chair, member of the Education Committee, and member of the Membership Committee. I am also currently Chair of the Mississippi Pharmacists Association’s (MPhA) Membership Committee and member of MPhA’s Awards and Nominations Committee. I am also current President of the Mississippi Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (MSSPEN) and have worked with MSSPEN's Board of Directors to organize successful Annual Meetings.
