Sterile Compounding Coordinator

Why I Do What I Do
Patient care is at the heart of everything I do. When sterile compounding isn't done properly, patients suffer. I believe patients need and deserve a strong advocate for their care from beginning to end, and that includes the medications we prepare for them. Our patients are the reason I have a career I love, and I keep them at the forefront of my mind at all times.

Latest Accomplishment
In April of 2018 a case study I wrote about my role as the Sterile Compounding Coordinator was published on ASHP's Technician Forum. I am so proud to have been published by ASHP, and so excited to be able to represent my organization. I am fortunate to work for a health system that recognizes the value of highly trained technicians, and actively works to create advanced technician roles.

Most Memorable Experience as a Pharmacy Technician
It's hard to pinpoint the most memorable experience I've had as a pharmacy technician. I have so many good memories, from building relationships with patients in retail, some of whom were invited to my wedding, to helping develop training procedures for new hires as part of various committees. I chair a volunteer committee in my department that plans activities and contests to improve the quality of work life. Last summer we organized a summer picnic at our local park. It was great to hang out with my coworkers outside of work and enjoy good food and fun with them and their families.

Why I Became Certified
I became nationally certified while I was working in retail pharmacy. At that time, it was required for state certification in South Carolina, where I was working. I have always wanted to practice at the top of my license and knew both certifications would help with that goal. I've kept up my certification current because it allows me to continue to practice at the highest level allowed, as well as advance the role of the pharmacy technician. I am a passionate advocate for pharmacy technicians, and national certification allows me to be effective.

My Passion Outside of Work
I spend a lot of my free time outside of work creating custom hand-crafted glass bead jewelry. I love making beautiful works of art to display, as well as giving them as gifts to friends and family.
