VP Clinical Pharmacy Strategy

Innovative Rx Strategies

Carmel, Indiana

Megan Dorrell, PharmD, BCACP is the vice president of clinical pharmacy strategy for Innovative Rx Strategies, an independent pharmacy benefits consulting firm. As clinical lead, she develops and orchestrates patient programming, new-to- market drug reviews, and optimizes formulary and utilization management programs. Her unique skillset and experience allow these programs to help organizations create savings opportunities while optimizing patient focused outcomes.

Dorrell graduated from Purdue University College of Pharmacy and completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice and PGY2 pharmacotherapy residency before becoming an ambulatory care pharmacist. Prior to moving to Innovative Rx Strategies in 2022, she was director of ambulatory care pharmacy at Community Health Network for six years. She developed and sustained many successful clinical programs, which drove the rapid growth of an ambulatory care pharmacy team. During this time, Dorrell led the implementation of a plan design and vendor change for her health system’s pharmacy benefits. Seeing firsthand the impact of innovation on pharmacy benefits, as well as opportunities for a clinical focus, led to her decision to shift her work to pharmacy benefit consulting. One of her goals now is to help other health-system pharmacy departments understand and execute programs that created extensive savings and improve patient outcomes to help justify and sustain the great work of pharmacy teams.

Dorrell is an active member of the ASHP Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners serving on the Section’s Advisory Group on Compensation and Practice Sustainability (CPS). She most recently served as chair for the 2022-2023 appointment year. Dorrell is grateful for the professional relationships and support system she has built throughout the years of her ASHP engagement. This involvement has allowed opportunities to present alongside fellow CPS section members at multiple Midyear Clinical Meetings on a variety of ambulatory care practice growth and sustainability topics. She has also shared her innovative approach and results through management case study presentations, an ASHP professional certificate program, and an ASHP published book. Dorrell currently resides in Indiana with her husband and two young children.
