Joel Marrs is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado, and a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in internal medicine with Denver Health Medical Center. His clinical practice focuses on the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Dr. Marrs earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, and a PGY2 family medicine specialty residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. He recently completed a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Scholars Fellowship Program and earned a certificate in public health sciences during this program. He is currently pursuing his Master of Public Health degree at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus with a focus in epidemiology. Dr. Marrs is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist with added qualifications in cardiology, a Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist, a certified Clinical Lipid Specialist, and a Certified Hypertension Clinician by the American Society of Hypertension. He has earned fellow status with ASHP, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, and the National Lipid Association.

Dr. Marrs has served ASHP and the Academy of Health-System Pharmacists of the Colorado Pharmacist Society for most of his career. He has been an active member of ASHP for the past 15 years. Dr. Marrs served in the ASHP House of Delegates from 2013-2016. He has been a member of the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Educational Steering Committee since 2010 and is a past Chair and Vice Chair of this committee. He was an appointed member of the ASHP Council on Therapeutics from 2009-2010 and again from 2011-2014. Dr. Marrs was an appointed member to the consensus recommendation panel for the ASHP Ambulatory Care Conference Summit in 2013. He is a faculty member for the ASHP Pharmacotherapy and Ambulatory Care Board Review courses, and was an appointed member of the Practice Analysis Taskforce in Cardiology for the Board of Pharmacy Specialties in 2012. He served most recently as an ASHP clinical representative on the petition to BPS to recognize Cardiology Pharmacy Practice as a specialty. Additionally, he has been an appointed member of the National Quality Forum Cardiovascular Steering Committee since 2013 and is the current president of the Southwest Lipid Association.
