Mohamed’s Story

Mohamed received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the Zagazig University in 2009; he is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute and Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS) from Health Information Management Systems Society.

Mohamed is an experienced Pharmacy Informatics Professional with more than seven years of experience in designing, developing, leading and managing Healthcare IT projects as well as an impressive record of accomplishments in Pharmacy Automation and robotics. He is passionate about development of the pharmacy informatics and Technology field in the Middle East, with focus on building Pharmacy Informatics core competencies in the region Mohamed’s primary interest is promoting meaningful use of standardized and interoperable data that supports safe, efficient, and effective medication use.

In his as Pharmacy Informatics Officer at Al Wakra Hospital- Hamad Medical Corporation, he is managing all aspects of eight different integrated systems that run all pharmacy’s day to day operation. Mohamed is a member of HMC Corporate Pharmacy Informatics Office which aims to develop overall HMC Pharmacy informatics and automation strategy. Mohamed has recently been appointed to the Section Advisory Group on Ambulatory Care Informatics.

Facility

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the national healthcare system of the State of Qatar, provides primary, secondary & tertiary care to a population of approximately 2 million nationals and expatriates. Providing 98% of all hospital and health services to the population.

For more than three decades, HMC has been dedicated to delivering the safest, most effective, and compassionate care to all its patients. HMC manages eight hospitals – five specialist hospitals and three community hospitals.

In January 2016, HMC achieved the significant distinction of becoming the first healthcare system across the globe to have all its hospitals accredited by Joint Commission International under the Academic Medical Center accreditation program.

Significant Projects

Mohamed is one of a few professionals in the Middle East region who had an extensive experience in a variety of Pharmacy Informatics and Automation solutions, with proven record of successful implementations. He led many pharmacy automation projects that covered several pharmacy practice areas such as Ambulatory Care and Acute Care Pharmacy Automation, IV Automation, Smart Infusion Pumps, Barcode Medication Administration, Supply Chain Management, Business Intelligence and Clinical Surveillance.

In October 2014, Mohamed received HMC Star of Excellence Award in Health Quality and Patient Safety Category for Al Wakra Hospital Outpatient Pharmacy Automation Project using Robotic dispensing device with automated Pharmacy Workflow System, which had significant impact on patient safety and operational efficiency. Moreover, he has implemented the region’s first integrated IV Admixture Robot with Cerner PharmNet for compounding of patient-specific doses and batch preparations as well. Developing dashboard with interactive visual analytics is one of the key projects he managed which aims to achieve optimal medication management across all dimensions of care, every time. He led the implementation of Cerner Millennium Pharmacy module and CPOE at one of the leading community hospitals in the country.

Pharmacy informatics continues to grow, and you need to read a lot and keep current with the trends and updates.
