NPF Advisory Groups

The ASHP New Practitioners Forum has six advisory groups that provide advice and guidance to the Forum regarding the unique needs of new practitioner members and how these needs might be addressed by the provision of resources and programs by ASHP.

Career and Leadership Development Advisory Group

Charges

  • Develop and promote resources to support career growth of new practitioners across practice areas. 
  • Seek and share career advice and lessons learned from pharmacy leaders. 
  • Provide resources to promote leadership development and skills.

Clinical Practice Advisory Group

Charges

  • Develop educational content and programming based on new practitioner needs. 
  • Evaluate and recommend updates to existing clinical practice resources.
  • Develop and promote tools and information relevant to research, publication, and new practitioner funding opportunities.
  • Provide precepting tools and resources for new practitioners.

Membership and Outreach Advisory Group

Charges

  • Spotlight new practitioner members, highlighting the diversity of the Forum. 
  • Plan and execute new practitioner networking events. 
  • Support the promotion of new practitioner members and resources via social media management (NPF Twitter account @ASHP_NPF).
  • Promote engagement opportunities and benefits of professional organizational involvement to students and new practitioners during career transitions.

Personal Development Advisory Group

Charges

  • Develop resources to foster well-being and resilience including work-life integration and personal finance.
  • Identify and create resources for professional identity formation and personal branding as a new practitioner.
  • Provide tools to support new practitioners in building a professional network and mentoring relationships

Practice Advancement and Advocacy Advisory Group

Charges

  • Develop and promote resources to support new practitioners to achieve credentialing and privileging relevant to their practice. 
  • Highlight innovative career opportunities available to new practitioners.
  • Highlight ASHP Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI) 2030 recommendations and share best practices to drive their adoption. 
  • Support the engagement of new practitioners in ASHP advocacy efforts and professional practice initiatives.

Resident Advancement Advisory Group

Charges

  • Support ASHP members as they navigate the residency search process and transition into a new residency program. 
  • Establish and/or review ASHP resources which support pharmacy residents with successful completion of their residency program.
  • Identify, highlight, and update member resources to promote successful transition into post-residency employment.

Advisory Group Eligibility Requirements

The Chair of the New Practitioners Forum, along with Executive Committee members, will appoint new practitioners to each advisory group for a August - May term. Advisory groups communicate primarily via email and virtual meetings on a periodic basis. Prior elected / appointed leadership is NOT required, however, appointments are competitive. 

All nominees must:

  • Be a member of ASHP.
  • Have graduated from pharmacy school within the past five years. 
  • Willing to participate in monthly virtual meetings throughout the year.

Application Instructions

Step 1: Complete the electronic application form. (Opens in February) 

Step 2: Submit the following information via the above electronic application:

  • CV
  • A brief statement describing your ASHP AG interest (250 words or less)
  • Note: For individuals seeking appointment as an Advisory Group Chair, you will be prompted to address your leadership style and meeting management skills in the application.
