July 2020

Hi New Practitioners,

Congratulations to the Pharm.D. Class of 2020 and welcome to the ASHP New Practitioners Forum (NPF)! On behalf of the NPF Executive Committee, we are pleased to welcome you and have you join our high-performing membership base. The NPF serves as professional home for pharmacists within their first five years of pharmacy practice, or as I like to tell everyone, a group of excited practitioners who are all at the same place in their career. No matter if you are a resident, starting your first role, moving to a different state, or thinking about your next career move, the New Practitioners Forum is here to support you on your journey.

We are creating the future of pharmacy. The New Practitioners Forum supports the mission and vision of ASHP by promoting the growth of pharmacy practice leaders and providing a collective voice for the new practitioners in the association. The Forum's mission is to increase engagement within ASHP by providing a community and collective voice for new practitioners as they transition into pharmacy practice. The Forum’s vision is that ASHP is the professional home for future pharmacy practice leaders. The Forum assists with integration into the pharmacy community by supporting your unique needs and providing an opportunity for collaboration and professional development. Our four goals focus on supporting our mission and vision as our values that drive our work.

This year, the NPF is excited to announce six advisory groups comprised of 120 leaders. Congratulations to all of the advisory group members and chairs on their appointments! The focus of these groups include career development, clinical practice, legislative affairs, leadership development, membership and outreach, and resident advancement. The advisory groups provide advice and guidance to the Forum regarding the unique needs of new practitioner members and how these needs might be addressed by the provision of resources and programs by ASHP. I am excited to support the work of our Forum leaders as they work to find solutions to the needs of our membership.

So new practitioners – are you excited to get started on our journey together? Your journey as a new practitioner is unique and your fellow members are here to support you! Whether you are looking for job preparation and networking tips and tricks, or research and preceptor development tools, the Forum has you covered. While the resources out there are expansive and growing – start with the New Practitioners Forum Toolkit. And if you cannot find what you are looking for, send your Executive Committee ideas for ways we can better support YOU at
