Schering Recalls Albuterol and Beclomethasone Aerosol Inhalers

Cheryl A. Thompson

Schering Laboratories is recalling several batches of albuterol inhalation aerosol and beclomethasone dipropionate inhalation aerosol because of the "remote possibility" that the inhalers may not contain active drug. The recall involves the Proventil and Warrick brands of albuterol inhaler (but not Proventil HFA) and Vanceril brand of beclomethasone inhaler.

Patients with unopened containers of the above products are being advised by the company to return them to pharmacies. The company says there is no need to replace opened containers of the products if patients are obtaining good results. The recall applies to the following batches:

  • Proventil and Warrick brands of albuterol inhalation aerosol
    • 7-BBS-303 through 7-BBS-642
    • 8-BBS-500 through 8-BBS-826
    • 9-BBS-500 through 9-BBS-832
  • Vanceril brand of beclomethasone dipropionate inhalation aerosol
    • 8-AMA-208 through 8-AMA-703
    • 8-DMT-644 through 8-DMT-646
    • 9-AMA-200 through 9-AMA-404
    • 9-DMT-133 through 9-DMT-621
