Four Cosponsors Needed to Push Provider Status Legislation to Next Phase
Provider status legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Pharmacy and Medically Underserved Areas Enhancement Act (H.R. 592), needs just four additional cosponsors to trigger the next step of the legislative process.
Rep. Fred Upton, Chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, has indicated that he would like the bill to have at least 230 cosponsors before he would hold a hearing. A new wave of support last week brought the legislation’s cosponsors to 226. Time is of the essence to garner additional support, as there is less than a month left in the first part of this congressional session and representatives will soon be debating extending the debt ceiling.
ASHP members are strongly encouraged to ask their members of Congress to cosponsor the legislation. Personalize the email provided in ASHP’s Grassroots Advocacy Center with examples from your practice that demonstrate the value you bring to the healthcare team.
