ASHP Earns Commuter Connections Employer Recognition Award
ASHP’s efforts to promote public transportation options to its employees were recognized last week as a regional model of excellence with a 2017 Commuter Connections Employer Recognition Award.
The award is given to employers in the District of Columbia, suburban Maryland, and Northern Virginia whose alternate commuter or telework programs have resulted in reduced auto fuel consumption and emissions through fewer trips and miles traveled. Winners are also selected based on altruistic policies that improve the lives of their employees and the environment of the region.
Located in downtown Bethesda, ASHP’s headquarters building is accessible by the Metro Red Line and is on several Metrobus and Montgomery County transit bus routes. The association’s employees may take advantage of several transportation benefits, including pre-tax deductions for parking, reimbursement for parking and membership in the Capital Bikeshare service, and SmartTrip benefits. ASHP also provides access to a gym, locker rooms with showers, and bike racks. Eligible employees have the option to telework or work remotely as well as the choice of flexible work hours and flex-time schedules.
All new employees are briefed about the transportation benefits during their orientation session. Information about the benefits as well as links to area commuting options and resources are available to all staff via the association’s intranet site.
“ASHP’s transportation benefits program serves dual goals,” said ASHP CEO Paul W. Abramowitz, Pharm.D., Sc.D. (Hon.), FASHP. “We are able to provide a meaningful benefit to the extraordinary employees who are responsible for our success and function as a responsible corporate citizen in the community that has been our home for more than 50 years. We are thrilled to receive the Employer Recognition Award as an acknowledgment of our commitment to our employees and the community.”
According to the Commuter Connections’ Vehicle Miles Traveled calculator, ASHP’s programs have helped to reduce total employee vehicle miles by 392,830 miles per year and reduce gasoline consumption by 19,840 gallons annually.
