ASHP Honors Black History Month

John E. ClarkIn recognition of Black History Month, ASHP is pleased to share new resources and the latest episode of ASHPOfficial, which features John E. Clark, Pharm.D., the most recent recipient of the ASHP–Association of Black Health-System Pharmacists Joint Leadership Award. This episode focuses on the background of pharmacy schools at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and the education of African-American pharmacists. Our new resource page includes a selection of ASHP policies and readings on cultural competence for the pharmacy workforce and health disparities.

ASHP Statement on Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Healthcare
General principles:

  1. All patients have the right to high-quality care
  2. Medication-use practices should reflect knowledge of, sensitivity to, and respect for the race and culture of the patient, and
  3. Health-System pharmacists have a vital role in eliminating racial and ethnic disparities in health care
