Hello Pharmacy Student Forum,
On behalf of the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee, I would like to congratulate you on reaching the midpoint of the spring semester. For our fourth-year members who are participating in the match or pursuing entry level positions, we wish you the best of luck!
We’re excited to have welcomed many of you to the greater Washington D.C area to participate in our Advocacy Boot Camp this past month to learn how the political process impacts our profession. This was an excellent opportunity for students to gain insight into ASHP’s current efforts to achieve provider status, network with ASHP staff and experienced advocates, and learn more about what students and new practitioners are doing to influence public policy. Attendees also engaged in meetings with current members of congress or their staff to provide insight as to the role of pharmacists in patient care. If you had the opportunity to attend our Advocacy Boot Camp, thank you for your active participation. For those of you interested in advocacy who were unable to attend this year, we encourage you to seek opportunities within your region or state to advocate for the pharmacy profession, and to keep in mind our annual Advocacy Boot Camp for next spring!
Practice Advancement Initiative (PAI) Week was held last month across the nation as an effort to celebrate the work being done to advance the health and well-being of patients through supporting futuristic practice models that promote the most effective use of pharmacists as direct patient care providers. Many schools of pharmacy held exciting events and programs to involve student members in the initiative. The ASHP Pharmacy Student Forum Advancement of Pharmacy Practice Advisory Group began a new initiative this year to honor SSHPs that have made an outstanding effort to promote PAI. As many as three SSHPs will be identified as a “Five Star SSHP” and one SSHP will receive the “PAI Shining Star Award.” The Advancement of Pharmacy Practice Advisory Group looks forward to reviewing your submissions and would like to thank you for your continued efforts to promote PAI!
Additionally, SSHPs have the opportunity to submit an application for the ASHP Foundation’s Leadership Speakers Bureau (LSB) which provides financial reimbursement to support the cost of hosting a unique pharmacy speaker at your individual school of pharmacy. The deadline for submission is March 15, 2018. For more information, please visit the ASHP Foundation website or view a recent post on connect within the Pharmacy Student Forum community page entitled “Unique Opportunity for SSHP Chapters: The Leadership Speakers Bureau.”
We wish you success in finishing up your spring semester and look forward to your continued engagement within the Pharmacy Student Forum or New Practitioners Forum for our fourth-year members transitioning to the next stage of their careers.
