September 2017

Hello Pharmacy Student Forum,

On behalf of the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee, I would like to welcome all of you back to another year of pharmacy school. For the fourth-year members that may have already started their clinical rotations, we wish you the best of luck. As we quickly approach the end of this summer, we would like to share some resources to help kick start and prepare you for a successful school year!

SSHP Membership Drive As you may know, in order to qualify annually for ASHP-SSHP recognition, you must hold at least one membership drive to recruit for your SSHP, ASHP, and your state affiliate health-system pharmacy organization. Planning your SSHP Membership Drive is a task that takes careful thought and consideration when recruiting new members who may not be as familiar with the organization. Thankfully, ASHP provides all of the necessary tools and resources you will need! As you recruit new members and welcome back previous members, be sure to document numbers for when you fill out ASHP’s recognition application at the end of the year.

Residency Preparation It is never too early to start preparing for a residency regardless of what phase of your student-pharmacist career you’re in. As you begin to feel confident that you would like to complete a residency, take the time to look through our Online Residency Directory to investigate potential residency programs. Preparing for a residency can be a very daunting task, but luckily ASHP provides a vast array of tools and resources to help guide you through this process. With resources such as our CV Review Program you can build a competitive CV, reviewed by volunteers who are experienced ASHP members. I participated in this opportunity as a P2 student and the feedback was very useful. This resource is available to all pharmacy students who would like to enhance their CV. Please note that submissions for the 2017 Fall Session will be accepted from August 15th through September 6th.

2017 Midyear Clinical Meeting ASHP’s 2017 Midyear Clinical Meeting is now just months away! This year’s annual meeting will take place in Orlando, Florida where there is plenty of sunshine and amazing attractions. There are a variety of events and opportunities for students at Midyear, including specific student programming, the Residency Showcase, the Clinical Skills Competition, and so much more. If that’s not enough, we have an exciting Opening Session this year!

This may seem like a lot of information to digest, however; the resources listed above will prove useful as you begin to navigate through the semester. Another great place to start up conversation with student pharmacists throughout the nation and receive information is on ASHP Connect! If you have not yet created a profile on Connect, I highly encourage you to do so. Connect allows you to keep up-to-date with Midyear buzz, participate in monthly Journal Clubs, read through student blogs, and share your ideas in discussion threads on various topics!

In closing, I am absolutely honored to serve this year as the Vice Chair of the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee. This is an amazing opportunity for me and I look forward to interacting with everyone throughout the year as we work together in advancing the pharmacy profession. I hope to see you all in my state, the sunshine state of Florida in December!

Kindest regards,
