Candy Tsourounis, Pharm.D., FCSHP, is Professor of Clinical Pharmacy in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy in the School of Pharmacy at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Tsourounis is involved in providing evidence-based reviews of recently approved prescription medications and performing medication utilization analyses in the UCSF Medication Outcomes Center.
Dr. Tsourounis is involved in providing evidence-based reviews of recently approved prescription medications, gene, and cellular therapies. These reviews help inform the UCSF Medical Center community, UCSF Health, and UC Health Systemwide on the role and value these therapies offer. Working with her medical center colleagues, Candy also performs medication utilization analyses.
Dr. Tsourounis has various areas of research interest, including value-based care, quality improvement, implementation science, evidence-based practice, drug information, literature evaluation, and dietary supplements. Her research focus has been on dietary supplement safe use and drug-supplement interactions. While she continues to contribute to this field, she focuses on demonstrating the value of pharmacists in medication management and value-based initiatives. Candy is very involved in educating consumers and health professionals on the rational use of medicines and related therapies. She serves as a clinical consultant and editor for various drug-related publications and computer software programs used by pharmacists and pharmacy learners worldwide. She has coordinated various continuing education programs for national pharmacy societies and serves as a speaker nationally and internationally on the practice of pharmacy.
Joel A. Hennenfent, Pharm.D., M.B.A., BCPS, FASHP, is the Chief Pharmacy Officer & Associate Administrator for Laboratory and Medical Imaging Services at Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, Missouri. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees at St. Louis College of Pharmacy, completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Louis University. Joel is a Past President of Missouri Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP), Past President of St. Louis Society of Health-System Pharmacists (STLSHP), and Past Chair of MSHP Research & Education Board. Moreover, he was the 2013 ASHP Council on Therapeutics Chair, 2015-2017 ASHP Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Executive Committee Director-at-Large, a 2014-2018 and 2015-2019 ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Forecast Advisory Committee member, the 2012 MSHP Pharmacist of the Year, and 2015 MSHP Foundation Garrison Award Recipient. Joel is currently serving as ASHP Delegate for Missouri, member of ASHP Pharmacy Executive Leadership Alliance (PELA) Advisory Panel, ASHP Formulary Submission Toolkit Steering Committee, Editor for the ASHP Pharmacy Competency Assessment Center (PCAC) and Board Member of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Board of Trustees.
