Navigating the world of residences in a COVID-19 world

Pharmacy Residencies have not been immune to the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, the ASHP Staff from the Accreditation Services Division are here to address many of the questions that RPDs, preceptors, residents, and prospective residents may have.

SPEAKERS

Janet Silvester is the vice president of the Accreditation Services Division at ASHP and has 34 years of experience in hospital practice, with 26 years as pharmacy director. At Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., she served as director of pharmacy and emergency services. She previously served on ASHP's Board of Directors as president and as president of the Virginia Society of Health-System Pharmacists. In 2012, Janet received the ASHP Award for Distinguished Leadership in Health-System Pharmacy in recognition of her efforts to develop progressive pharmacy services at a small community hospital. At Martha Jefferson, she was also responsible for the development of a PGY1 residency training program. Janet is responsible for expanding and elevating ASHP's accreditation programs and ensuring that they receive senior-level strategic oversight. She also lead the growth and development of all ASHP accreditation programs and services domestically and internationally, including the implementation of sound business plans to grow and develop accreditation programs for both pharmacy residency and technician training programs.

Vicki BasalygaVicki Basalyga, Pharm.D., BCPS, BCPPS, is the Director for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists. In this role Vicki serves as an information resource and provides guidance to ASHP members regarding science and scientific developments affecting pharmacy practice in health systems. She serves as secretary to the Section executive committee and coordinates activities to accomplish the objectives established by the Section. Additionally, Vicki has assumed the position of Council Secretary for the ASHP's Council on Therapeutics.

Vicki received her Doctor of Pharmacy from Duquesne University and completed an ASHP accredited PGY1 at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Vicki is also a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and a Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Specialist.

Prior to her current position at ASHP, Vicki practiced as critical care pharmacist in both the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, DC. Other activities Vicki performed included drafting policies and procedures, co-chairing the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, creating and drafting order sets for CPOE conversion and precepting residents and students.
