Be Antibiotics Aware: Pharmacists Leveraging the NHSN AU Option

In honor of U.S. Antibiotic Awareness Week November 18-24, 2022, join us for a podcast discussion on the CDC National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) Antimicrobial Use (AU) Option. The availability of this Option is another opportunity to improve antimicrobial use for patient and public health. 

SPEAKERS

Melinda NeuhauserMelinda Neuhauser, PharmD, MPH, is pharmacist and acute care lead for Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Office of Antibiotic Stewardship in the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion. Melinda graduated from University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy and completed her infectious diseases residency training at Detroit Receiving Hospital and fellowship training at University of Illinois at Chicago. Prior to joining the CDC, Melinda worked as the National Clinical Pharmacy Program Manager in Infectious Diseases for the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Pharmacy Benefits Management Services and Co-Chair of the VA National Antimicrobial Stewardship Task Force.

Libby Dodds AshleyElizabeth S. Dodds Ashley, PharmD, MHS, FCCP, FIDP, BCIDP, is a Professor of Medicine and Operations Director for the Duke Antimicrobial Stewardship Outreach Network (DASON) based at Duke University.  She has been an active antimicrobial stewardship pharmacist for more than 15 years. Her work and research in stewardship span a variety of patient care settings including large academic medical centers, community hospitals and long term care facilities. She has served as a member of the Antimicrobial Resistance Working Group at the Centers for Disease Control, and an expert panel member of the Transatlantic Taskforce for Antimicrobial Resistance among other appointments. She is a current liaison member and first pharmacist on the Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB) representing SIDP.  She is actively involved in several professional societies engaged in stewardship including SHEA and SIDP for which recently served as President.

Chris EvansChristopher Evans, PharmD, is a pharmacist with the Healthcare Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Resistance Program at the Tennessee Department of Health.  He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Campbell University School of Pharmacy in Buies Creek, NC, and completed a general pharmacy practice residency at Vidant Health in Greenville, NC.  He also completed an infectious diseases pharmacy residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY, where he later served as the Antimicrobial Stewardship Pharmacist for seven years.  His work at the department of health focuses on improving antibiotic use in all areas of care in Tennessee and investigation of cases of injectable drug diversion.

Amy WebbAmy Webb, MPH, CHES, is a senior public health analyst with the Lantana Consulting Group, a contractor for NHSN, within the Surveillance Branch of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP) at CDC. Amy has been with the NHSN Team for over 10 years and is currently a subject matter expert for the NHSN Antimicrobial Use and Resistance (AUR) Module working with facilities and software vendors to support the submission of AUR data into NHSN.

Anna Legreid-DoppAnna Dopp, PharmD, serves as the Senior Director of Clinical Guidelines and Quality Improvement at ASHP. Prior to this role, Dr. Dopp served as the Vice President of Public Affairs for the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin while practicing as a clinical pharmacist at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. She also served as a Pharmacy Benefit Consultant with WEA Trust in Madison, WI and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy. Dr. Dopp received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University Of Minnesota College Of Pharmacy and served as a Congressional Health Policy Fellow with the United States Senate.
