Patricia Kienle, MPA, BCSCP, FASHP is the Director of Accreditation and Medication Safety for Cardinal Health. She received her pharmacy degree from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science and a Masters in Public Administration from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She is Board Certified as a Sterile Compounding Pharmacist, completed an Executive Fellowship in Patient Safety from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, and is an Adjunct Clinical Faculty member at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. She served on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and as President of the Pennsylvania Society of Hospital Pharmacists. She is a Fellow of ASHP, was named Pharmacist of the Year by PSHP, the recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award in Hospital and Institutional Practice from the American Pharmaceutical Association Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management, the Distinguished Leadership Award from ASHP, the ASHP John W. Webb Lecture Award, and the Thomas S. Foster Award from the United States Pharmacopeia. She has served on the Pharmacotherapy Specialty Council of the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority, the Hospital Professional and Technical Advisory Committee of The Joint Commission, and on the Board of Governors of the National Patient Safety Foundation. She is a current member of the USP Compounding Expert Committee and chairs the Subcommittee on Hazardous Drugs. Patti is the author of Compounding Sterile Preparations: ASHP’s Visual Guide to Chapter <797> video and Companion Guide, co-author of Meeting Accreditation Standards: A Pharmacy Preparation Guide, and author of The Chapter <795> Answer Book, The Chapter <797> Answer Book, and The Chapter <800> Answer Book. With over 500 invited presentations and 80 publications, she has special interests in promoting medication safety, compounding sterile preparations, accreditation, and regulatory issues.
Michael Ganio Pharm.D., M.S., BCPS, FASHP, Senior Director, Pharmacy Practice and Quality, ASHP.
Dr. Ganio joined the staff at ASHP as Director of Pharmacy Practice and Quality in January of 2018. As a member of the Center on Medication Safety and Quality team, his responsibilities span the practice of pharmacy and include drug shortages, pharmaceutical quality, sterile and non-sterile drug compounding practices, hazardous drug handling, and the ASHP Standardize 4 Safety initiative.
Dr. Ganio earned his Pharm.D. from the Rutgers University Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy and his Master’s degree in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy. He completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Ganio is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS).
Dr. Ganio has over 18 years of hospital and health-system experience. His previous job roles have included clinical pharmacy practice, pharmacy informatics and technology, and operations management of outpatient oncology infusion pharmacies. He has extensive knowledge of pharmacy informatics and automation, medication billing and reimbursement, sterile compounding, and outpatient infusion and ambulatory care models.
Eric Maroyka, Pharm.D., BCPS, joined ASHP in May 2016 as the Senior Director, Center on Pharmacy Practice Advancement. He is responsible for the Practice Advancement Initiative focused on transforming the practice of pharmacy to enhance the role of the pharmacist in providing direct patient care services.
Prior to his current position, he served as the Director of Pharmacy at Fauquier Health in Warrenton, Virginia. Dr. Maroyka also served over 22 years as a commissioned pharmacy officer in the United States Army working in a variety of clinical, pharmacy management/director, and senior leadership roles within the Military Health System.
He earned a Bachelors Degree in Pharmacy and Pharm.D. from Rutgers University and completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dr. Maroyka is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and is a graduate of the Pharmacy Leadership Institute.
Dr. Maroyka was a past appointed member of the ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers Section Advisory Group on Pharmacy Business Management and the Council on Pharmacy Management. He served as a delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates representing the Commonwealth of Virginia and as a Federal Delegate with the American Pharmacists Association. He currently serves as ASHP Secretary for the Council on Pharmacy Management and secretary for the Federal Pharmacy Consultants’ Advisory Group. Dr. Maroyka readily accepts and enjoys serving as a preceptor for student pharmacists and pharmacy residents.
