Ask the ASHP Fellows - What I Wish I Knew as a New Practitioner

On this podcast, we host three ASHP Fellows and discuss topics including the role of pharmacists as frontline providers, pharmacists impact on patient care during the pandemic, and advice and encouragement for new practitioners after a year of primarily virtual training.

SPEAKERS

Daniel PonsDaniel Pons is a 2019 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. He completed a PGY1 residency at Children's Mercy Kansas City and now works as a clinical pharmacist at LMH Health in Lawrence, Kansas.

 

Katherine MillerKatherine (Kat) Miller is currently the Pharmacy Director - System Inpatient Clinical Services and Clinical Nutrition at The University of Kansas Health System and serves as the Residency Programs Executive. She completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Wisconsin followed by a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice and PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration Residency at Oregon Health and Sciences University. She received her Master of Health Administration at Simmons College. Dr. Miller is a graduate of, and now faculty for the ASHP Foundation Pharmacy Leadership Academy (PLA).

Nicole AcquistoNicole M. Acquisto is an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist and Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY. She is a leader in EM pharmacy and active at advancing practice nationally through advocacy, education, and research. Her current position focuses on clinical pharmacotherapy research in the Departments of Pharmacy and Emergency Medicine. Dr. Acquisto has over 75 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has presented on the national stage over 40 times. Her recognitions include the ASHP Pharmacy Residency Excellence New Preceptor Award, two ASHP Best Practices Awards, the ACCP New Clinical Practitioner Award, two ACCP EMED PRN Outstanding Paper of the Year Awards, and the NYS ACCP Researcher of the Year and she is an Editorial Board member for the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

Joe SlechtaDr. Joe Slechta is a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Cardiovascular Diseases at Wesley Healthcare in Wichita, Kansas and has practiced pharmacy for 25 years. His practice is caring for patients in the Cardiology Care Unit and he serves on several inter-professional committees established to improve the care of cardiovascular and stroke patients. He has served as Chair for the ASHP Council on Pharmacy Practice in 2018 and is currently finishing out his term as the Kansas Council of Health-Systems Pharmacy Immediate Past President.
