This podcast provides an engaging interview with three hospital executives who are pharmacists, have successful careers, and contributed significantly to health system professional associations. Wendy Horton, Tad Gomez, and James Klauck will share their insights on their professional journeys as pharmacists, hospital executives, and association leaders. This discussion will include essential skills to becoming an effective leader and perspectives on being successful in today’s health care environment.

SPEAKERS

Wendy HortonWendy Horton, PharmD, MBA, FACHE (she/her/hers) a proud pharmacist, serves as the chief executive officer of UVA Health University Medical Center. With extensive experience in nationally recognized academic medical centers, she is a passionate advocate for healthcare quality and redesign. Recognized as a Top Women Leader in Healthcare, Wendy holds a PharmD from the University of Utah, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, and a BS in Pharmacy from Oregon State University.

Tad GomezTad Gomez, RPh, MS, FASHP (he/him) is president of Loyola University Medical Center. Previously, he served as vice president for professional and support services at Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS). Mr. Gomez also served as the vice president for professional services at Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC) as well as various pharmacy management positions at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Harris Health. Mr. Gomez has been recognized as a fellow of ASHP. He earned his BS in pharmacy from the University of Kansas and his MS in hospital pharmacy from the Ohio State University.

James KlauckJim Klauck, MS, RPh, FASHP, FACHE is senior vice president of Froedtert & Thedacare Health Ancillary Services. Formerly the director of Pharmacy Services, Jim assumed the role of vice president for Supply Chain Services in 2007, was named vice president of Ancillary Services in 2013 and promoted to senior vice president in 2016. As SVP, Jim oversees system-wide ancillary services, including Pharmacy, Imaging, Lab, Rehabilitation and Ambulatory Surgery Centers, as well as other services across all settings, for the 18 hospital, 70-clinic health network.

David ChenDavid Chen, RPh, MBA (he/him/his) is the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ assistant vice president for pharmacy leadership and planning. He has been with ASHP starting September 2004, and previously served the role as Director of Pharmacy at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital in Rockville, Maryland including the Kessler/Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital. Mr. Chen earned his Bachelor of Science in pharmacy degree from the University Of Maryland School Of Pharmacy and his MBA from the Loyola University of Maryland.
