Practice to Leadership: Transitioning in the ED

Many practitioners find as they grow in their practice that they move into leadership roles. These roles can come after completing a PGY2 in Emergency Medicine or during their career. This podcast will the transition two pharmacists have done as they moved from practicing as emergency medicine pharmacists into taking leadership roles over emergency medicine pharmacy practices.

SPEAKERS

Aaron SteffenhagenAaron Steffenhagen, PharmD, BCPS, FASHP is a clinical pharmacy manager at the University of Wisconsin Health and a clinical instructor with the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. Aaron completed a PGY1 Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) after earning a PharmD degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His initial years of experience focused on establishing emergency medicine clinical pharmacy services which transitioned into his current role. At UWHealth he oversees pharmacy practice and services in critical care, emergency medicine, neurosciences, and the psychiatric hospital while maintaining his own clinical practice and precepting. Nationally within ASHP he has been active in the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists (SCSS) and is currently serving on the Council on Pharmacy Practice.

Alyssa ChappellAlyssa Chappell, PharmD, BCPS is the pharmacotherapy specialist coordinator in Emergency Medicine at Tampa General Hospital. Dr. Chappell received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Florida. She completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 and PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency program at Tampa General Hospital. After residency she practiced in a community-based ED. In 2020 she returned to Tampa General where she now serves in her current role. She also serves as the director of the PGY2 Emergency Medicine residency program.

Vicki BasalygaVicki Basalyga, PharmD, MAS, BCPS, BCPPS is the Director of Member Relations for the Clinical Specialists and Scientists at ASHP. In addition to her Director role, Vicki assists in clinical policy development as the Secretary for the Council on Therapeutics, serves as a representative for ASHP on numerous national clinical initiatives and works with members to create essential tools and resources for leaders, practitioners and educators.
