Specialized Roles Within Specialty Pharmacy

Specialty pharmacy practice doesn’t always mean exotic or expensive drugs; it's often the work done to get those products paid for and ensure patient access and timely start of therapy. Members of this group outline what work really makes their team special and how they contribute to patient care.

SPEAKERS

Nehrin KhamoNehrin Khamo, PharmD, CSP, earned her PharmD degree from the University of IL College of Pharmacy; in 2011 she joined Specialty Pharmacy Services team at UI Health. She is currently the clinical care center coordinator for Specialty Pharmacy Services at UI health. In her current role Dr. Khamo oversees a team of specialty pharmacists and technicians and ensures accurate, efficient, and appropriate drug distribution services are provided to specialty patients.

Sarah StievenSarah Stieven, PharmD, practices with the Mayo Clinic Specialty Pharmacy, serving as the clinical resource for neurology & multiple sclerosis. She has been working in the field of specialty pharmacy for the past 7 years. Prior to coming to Mayo Clinic, she worked with rare diseases and orphan drug therapies in a limited distribution model pharmacy. Sarah currently holds pharmacist licenses in 18 states.

Logan KosturLogan Kostur, PharmD, CSP, works as an operation manager for the Gulfport Memorial Specialty Pharmacy Services. He oversees the care of approximately 2500 patients with over a dozen employees embedded in cardiology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, neurology, oncology and rheumatology. He joined the Workforce Development Special Action Group to help define opportunities available to specialty pharmacists and technicians focusing on improving job satisfaction, fulfillment and efficiency in their roles.
