In this podcast, Christopher Medlin and Maria Carias will discuss Chris’ journey as a Mexican American pharmacist. They will discuss Chris’ experiences as a Latino growing up in Texas and now treating patients along the Mexican American border, and his thoughts on how to increase recruitment of Latinos into the pharmacy workforce.

SPEAKERS
Christopher Medlin, Pharm.D., is a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) School of Pharmacy. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and went on to complete his PGY1/2 Pharmacotherapy Residency at the University of Maryland, Baltimore School of Pharmacy. Dr. Medlin is an internal medicine clinical pharmacist and his research interests include Hispanic health disparities, cultural competency, and various clinical subspecialties including infectious diseases, anticoagulation, and liver disease.
Maria F. Carias, M.B.A., M.S., is the Director of Member Operations within the ASHP Office of Member Relations. In this role, Ms. Carias coordinates the operational logistics for various ASHP initiatives. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Policy from American University and both her Master’s of Science in Project Management and Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus. Ms. Carias was recognized as a 2020 recipient of the ASHP CEO Award for Staff Excellence.
