Pharmacogenomics can be daunting to pharmacy practitioners who may not have much experience in the area. This podcast will explain the role of a pharmacogenomics clinical specialist and how to successfully implement the service into practice. In addition, the podcast will include the learner’s perspective on the pharmacogenomics rotation experience and integration into research, as well as tools pharmacists can use that provide additional education and training in pharmacogenomics.
SPEAKERS
Jennifer Hockings, PharmD, PhD, BCPS, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Mississippi. After completing a PGY1 residency at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN and a PGY2 in clinical pharmacogenetics at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, she joined Cleveland Clinic as a pharmacogenomics clinical specialist in Pharmacy and Center for Personalized Genetic Healthcare (CPGH). She is focused on providing innovative patient care through clinical and research collaborations as well as implementation of pharmacogenomics and education.
Alex Nilges, PharmD, MBA, is a PGY2/MS Resident in Health-System Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) at Cleveland Clinic. This year, she serves as chair of ASHP’s Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residents’ Collaborative (PALRC) alongside many talented HSPALs across the nation. Prior to residency, Alex attended Kent State University where she received a BS in Chemistry. Alex went on to complete her Doctor of Pharmacy and MBA at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy and Gatton College of Business, respectively.
Mary Pat Bulfin, PharmD, BCPS, received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2018. She completed her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at Novant Health in Winston-Salem, NC, in 2019 and her PGY2 Medication Use Safety residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, KY, in 2020. Mary Pat has served as the Medication Safety Pharmacist for adult patients at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus since August 2020.
