Solid Organ Transplant Pharmacy? What’s that?

There are many career avenues one can take as pharmacist. One area within clinical pharmacy that many individuals do not get much exposure to in pharmacy school or practice is solid organ transplant. This podcast will review what a career as a solid organ transplant pharmacist looks like and potential career avenues if one was to pursue this track of pharmacy.

SPEAKERS

Cassandra VotrubaCassandra Votruba, PharmD, BCTXP, BCPS is a dual board-certified Solid Organ Transplant Clinical Specialist Pharmacist at Mayo Clinic Arizona with a focus on abdominal transplant. Cassandra is the Residency Director for the PGY-2 Transplant Residency program. Additionally, she is the Chair of the Mayo Clinic Arizona Clinical Pharmacy Practice Committee. Cassandra has a passion for research with areas of interesting in transplant including CMV, hepatitis C donor organs, and pharmacogenetics.

Madeline HudsonMadeline Hudson, PharmD, BCPS, BCTXP is a Transplant Clinical Specialist at Mayo Clinic in Arizona. She completed her pharmacy education at the University of Mississippi. She went on to pursue a PGY-1 at Mayo Clinic Florida and a PGY-2 in Solid Organ Transplantation at Tampa General Hospital. Dr. Hudson is board certified in Pharmacotherapy and Solid Organ Transplantation. She serves as the Chair of Arizona Quality Council and as ARPD for Mayo Arizona’s upcoming Solid Organ Transplant PGY-2.

Jenise StephenJenise Stephen, PharmD, BCPS is a Midwestern University Chicago College of Pharmacy Graduate. She completed her PGY-1 at Hahnemann University Hospital and her PGY-2 at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After six years in the cold, Jenise packed her bags and headed to the desert for Phoenix Arizona where she became the cardiothoracic transplant pharmacist at Mayo Clinic. When not at work, Jenise likes to spend time with her family.

Brian MastersBrian Masters, PharmD, BCTXP, a Medical Science Liaison at Veloxis Pharmaceuticals, holds a PharmD from Roseman University. His career includes PGY-1 and PGY-2 residencies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Maryland. With over a decade in clinical practice, he served as a PGY-2 program director and managed transplant pharmacy services at the University of Maryland. Currently based in Salt Lake City, UT, Brian collaborates with transplant thought leaders in the western United States.

Christi JenChristi Jen, PharmD, BCPS, BCEMP, FASHP, FAzPA is the Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Mayo Clinic Arizona since 2021. Prior to joining Mayo Clinic, Dr. Jen served as a Clinical Manager at for 2 years and Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist for over 11 years. Dr. Jen’s tenure in the emergency department (ED) led to the development of clinical pharmacy services including the pharmacist-driven culture follow-up program and the medication history technician program in the ED. Dr. Jen currently serves as ASHP’s Immediate Past Chair for the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists and in various capacities in its Section Advisory Groups and Council on Therapeutics. She has presented both locally and nationally on various topics pertaining to emergency medicine, disaster preparedness, and precepting to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel.
