Care of the transgender and gender diverse community, or persons who do not identify with the sex or gender assigned at birth, presents opportunities for pharmacist involvement in all patient care settings. Understanding of therapeutic and psychosocial factors is paramount to creating and maintaining a gender-affirming environment.  

SPEAKERS

Brayden MisiolekBrayden A. Misiolek (he/they) leads community-driven research exploring minority stress, coping responses, and health determinants. In 2015, Misiolek co-founded Transcend the Binary with his late partner, a pharmacist and transgender ally. Transcend now expands beyond hormone education and referral navigation to include peer support, community-led research, and interventions fostering resilience and emotional wellness. As an aspiring scientist-practitioner of clinical psychology, Misiolek’s desire to advance outcomes for stigmatized populations drives his passion for translational science.

Caleb CogswellCaleb Cogswell, PharmD (they/them) is a community focused healthcare consultant with Transcend the Binary. They fuse their six years of specialty pharmacy practice and their lived experience as a trans person to improve access to gender affirming care. They have presented clinical lectures on gender affirming pharmacotherapy throughout Michigan since 2017 and are a member of Planned Parenthood of Michigan’s community advisory board for gender affirming care.

Sarah BlackwellSarah Blackwell, PharmD, BCPS, BCCCP (she/her) is the Medical Intensive Care Unit clinical specialist at Princeton Baptist Medical Center. She has served in this role for eight years and was also the Pulmonary Critical Care clinical specialist serving across four ICUs for six years. She obtained her PharmD from Auburn University in 2011 and completed her PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in 2012. Her practice interests include pulmonary medicine, infectious disease, sepsis, and sedation practices.
