Chair Message January 2018

March 2018

Happy spring! Or is it really spring?! With all the snow up north and cold around it makes you wonder... So this message comes with hope you are enjoying the weather wherever you are and will soon feel that renewed energy that often spring can bring.

Speaking of renewed energy and staying active in ASHP, there is still time to get involved! The call for involvement in section advisory groups (SAG) and committee has gone out and I encourage all of you to consider ASHP section activity. It is a great way to meet new people, work on meaningful projects and develop as an ASHP leader! Within our section opportunities to volunteer include SAGs, network facilitators and the educational steering committee - all searching for member involvement. You can submit your interest here volunteer submissions. This is how many of us got our start in section leadership and how I met many of you! April 1st is the deadline to submit your information to be considered for appointment. Let me know if you have any questions about involvement and/or which area might be the best fit for you!

Related to that, we have exciting news! The SCSS executive committee is happy to announce our new Pediatric SAG! Since 2017, a pediatric workgroup has been convened and they have been working on member needs as it relates to our littlest patients. Their work spawned our new SAG which will begin fulfilling their charges mid-2018. Other exciting news within our section is the Preceptors Skills Development SAG and their work on the Preceptor Tool kit. The have worked diligently to redesign the tool kit into preceptor types to help with the different types of learners one might precept and have reviewed and curated presentations from the past National Preceptors Conference that are now available on the site. The SAG on Preceptor Skills Development is currently collecting data for the Challenging Resident Trainee Survey. All preceptors and residency program directors are invited to participate in this survey which aims to address Challenging Resident Trainees. This survey was should take no more than 10 minutes to complete and is strictly confidential. This group has been busy, as have all of our section SAGs, workgroups and committees!

More ways to get involved: Join us in Denver for the ASHP summer meeting, June 2-6th! You can do some networking, get some CE and participate in the House of Delegates (personally one of my favorites!). Denver is an amazing city and Colorado has much natural beauty to enjoy. Get more information on the summer meeting and hope to see you there!

So in keeping with our “getting involved” motto this month, here is a little something I wanted to share with you all:

“Ability is about what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.” Author unknown.

As always, let us know how we can better serve you at [email protected]. Make it a great day!
