UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy

Madison StanleyDuring my fourth-year community rotation at Eden Drug, I had the opportunity to manage and run daily COVID-19 testing for patients in Eden, NC, and the surrounding area. I coached patients on how to self-administer our nasal swab kits and provided education on current understanding of COVID-19 transmission, appropriate social distancing practices, and ways to protect themselves, their loved ones and the community.

This unique opportunity provided me the chance to advance the community's understanding of the current pandemic as well as advocate for pharmacy practice. We offered both the active viral test and the antibody test, so I spent much of my time educating on the differences of each test and importance of proactive measures. I am grateful to have had this opportunity to not only educate, but ease the fears of patients in a rural population.

Madison Stanley is a  PY4 student at UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy.
