I hope you all had a warm and wonderful holiday season! It’s so hard to believe how quickly it passed by. I enjoyed quality time with family and friends, and we all enjoyed time playing in the snow and relaxing. I’m looking forward to seeing all of the fun and exciting things 2018 will bring!
I enjoyed seeing many of you last month at the 2017 ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting (MCM) in Orlando, Florida. The weather was phenomenal for the entire week! The Section’s Executive Committee had a productive meeting on the Saturday before MCM, and all of the Section’s networking sessions, held Sunday through Tuesday, were well attended and resulted in thoughtful discussion and generation of ideas. A special thank you to our Lead Facilitators, Meghan Tolan, Tricia Meyer, Bryan Shaw, Lei Tang, Emily Alexander, and Kathy Ghomeshi, and all volunteer Table Facilitators! Our Section’s Meet and Greet on Monday night was a fun opportunity to relax and get caught up with each other, since so much has happened over the past year. Attending the Distinguished Service Award Dessert Reception on Tuesday afternoon was fulfilling. The award recipient for our section is Wes Pitts; it was so wonderful to reflect on all of the accomplishments and service he has provided to the Section over the years! I saw many of you while volunteering at the Information Desk, handing out ribbons and providing helpful information to attendees. I was excited to see that some folks had found some of the ASHP 75th Anniversary Twitter teddy bears that had been hidden throughout the convention center. Additionally, I had the opportunity to attend the Resident Meet and Greet event that evening, allowing pharmacy residents the opportunity to interact with and ask questions of ASHP’s leaders and past award recipients. Earlier that day, I served as a poster mentor to some of these same residents, providing helpful feedback on their poster presentations. If you haven’t served as a poster mentor before, consider doing so! On my last day at the MCM, I was fortunate to moderate and speak at an educational session. It is amazing to see how many high-quality events occurred at the MCM; between the continuing education sessions, networking opportunities, poster sessions, exhibits, and closing party. The MCM was a fulfilling and productive meeting!
It is exciting to begin planning the update to the Section’s strategic plan. ASHP’s Strategic Plan was updated and approved by the Board of Directors and we are working to align the goals of the Section with this document. We will incorporate strategies to improve clinician well-being and resilience through the use of novel delivery methods, such as podcasts, discussion boards, and live and virtual educational sessions. ASHP will work closely with members to provide useful tools that can assist with daily practice on the front lines, including webinars that review newly published and updated guidelines. We also hope to encourage members to get involved with the Section, through participation on Section Advisory Groups (SAG) and the Educational Steering Committee (ESC). We are eager to foster collaboration between our SAGs and ESC as well as other Sections within ASHP. The upcoming year holds so much potential and possibilities. I can’t wait to see how far we go!!
As always, please feel free to contact me at any time with any thoughts, input, or questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. I wish you all a happy, healthy, and productive 2018!
