Executive Committee

The role of the Section Executive Committee is to provide leadership, guidance, and advice to ASHP on ways to better meet the day to day practice needs of members.

Chair (2023-2024)

Allison King, PharmD, FASHP

Allison KingAllison King is an investigational drug pharmacist and PGY1 residency director at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.  Previously, she served an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and practiced in the Drug Information Center. King earned her PharmD from the University of Missouri – Kansas City and completed an ASHP-accredited Drug Information residency at the University of Kansas Hospital.  She is currently pursuing her Masters in Healthcare Administration at Texas Tech University.King is an active member of ASHP.  She is currently the Director-at-large for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. Previously, she served on the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners Advisory Group on Pharmacy Practice Experiences for five years with leadership roles as Vice Chair and Chair and on the New Practitioners Forum Professional Practice Section Advisory Group.  Additional ASHP service includes PGY1 Residency Accreditation Practitioner Surveyor, editorial reviewer for multiple ASHP publications, and multicycle CV and poster reviewer. King is an author on over 20 manuscripts and has presented multiple posters at ASHP Midyear.  She has delivered presentations at ASHP Midyear, taped multiple ASHP webinars/podcasts and has also held leadership roles on the Executive Boards for state and local ASHP affiliate chapters.

Immediate Past Chair (2023-2024)

Sarah S. Stephens, PharmD, RPh, CPPS

Sarah StephensSarah S. Stephens is the network medication safety officer for HonorHealth in Scottsdale, AZ. She earned her Pharm.D. at the University of Wyoming and completed two years of residency training at University of Utah Health specializing in drug information. She practiced as an acute care adult internal medicine pharmacist for the University of Utah, and then accepted a full-time faculty role for the University of Utah College of Pharmacy, at which time, her clinical practice transitioned to the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City. After 15 years with the University of Utah, she transitioned to a medication safety role at Kaweah Health in Visalia, an underserved area of Central Valley California. She accepted a system-level, medication safety position for HonorHealth, a six-hospital health system, in 2020. Stephens has diverse acute care experiences, including academic tertiary care centers, government, and community hospitals. 

ASHP involvement includes service as the chapter president and treasurer of the Utah Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and House of Delegates representative during this time. She then served as a member, vice chair, and chair of the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP) Advisory Group on Medication Safety Section just prior to being elected to the SICP executive committee as a director-at-large. She was a faculty member for the Crisis and Pandemic Management Certificate program, author for the ASHP Guideline on Managing Adverse Drug Reactions, presenter at Midyear Clinical and Summer meetings, including workshops and pearls, and a facilitator at multiple networking sessions.

Chair Elect (2023-2024)

Lucas T Schulz, PharmD, BCIDP

Lucas SchulzLucas T Schulz is Manager of Infectious Diseases, Solid Organ Transplant, and Experiential Education and the PGY1 and PGY2-ID Residency Program Director at University of Wisconsin Health.  Schulz is also Associate Clinical Professor at the UW-School of Pharmacy, contributing clinical rotations and clinical lectures in Pharmacotherapy.  Previously, he practiced as a critical care pharmacist in medical, surgical, and neurosurgical intensive care units at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics.  Schulz received his Pharm.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. He completed a PGY1 and PGY2 Critical Care residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.  He is the author of 90 peer-reviewed publications and over 100 abstracts.  In his current role, he is responsible for pharmacy practice advancement and is recognized as an innovative leader of pharmacists and pharmacy practice.

Lucas has been an active member of ASHP since 2003. He currently serves as the Director-At-Large for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. Previous service to ASHP includes: delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates, member of the ASHP New Practitioners Forum, and moderator and presenter at multiple ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting and Summer Meetings. Lucas supports the development of ASHP Board Certification in Infectious Diseases as author and reviewer.  He is the residency program director of two ASHP accredited programs since 2012. Lucas is also involved in leadership roles nationally and within the state of Wisconsin.

Director-at-Large (2022-2024)

Indrani Kar, PharmD

Indrani KarIndrani Kar is the clinical pharmacy specialist for drug policy/formulary at University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio. She oversees the system adult formulary, system pediatric formulary, ambulatory medication guidance, and system medication policy. She also supports the over 30 residents at UH in their professional development and conducts student APPE rotations in drug information. She earned her Pharm.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, completed her specialty fellowship in drug information at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy, and completed her PGY2 residency in drug information at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Rutgers, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy.

She currently serves ASHP as the chair of the Section for Inpatient Care Practitioners’ Educational Steering Committee . She has previously served as the new practitioner member of the Council on Therapeutics and as a member of the Section Advisory Group (SAG) on Medication Safety. She is an active member of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists, serving as the inaugural chair for the Clinical Resilience and Well-Being Taskforce and supporting the ASHP as a curriculum vitae reviewer and annual meeting continuing education session reviewer. She is actively involved in supporting ASHP’s guideline development process and education as a guideline reviewer and professional poster abstract reviewer. She also has a vested interest in developing students and residents and has served as a multi-cycle poster reviewer at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting.

Director-at-Large (2022-2025)

Katayoon Kathy Ghomeshi, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, CPPS

Kathy GhomeshiKatayoon Kathy Ghomeshi is a Medication Safety Officer at UCSF Health and Assistant Clinical Professor with UCSF School of Pharmacy. Dr. Ghomeshi earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, Davis in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior.  She completed a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.  She earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Baltimore/Towson University. Dr. Ghomeshi completed a PGY1 Managed Care Pharmacy residency at Kaiser Foundation Hospitals/Kaiser Permanente, followed by a PGY2 in Medication-Use Safety at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. She maintains board certification as a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist and Certified Professional in Patient Safety. Dr. Ghomeshi is appointed by ASHP President-Elect Paul Walker for the Council on Pharmacy Practice Management.  She was past Chair/Vice Chair of the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners Advisory Group on Medication Safety and Appointed Member for the past six years.  Dr. Ghomeshi was Program Chair for the Midyear Clinical Meeting Quality and Safety Pearls in 2020 and has presented pearls on numerous occasions. She has been an invited speaker on multiple occasions for the ASHP Summer Meeting.  She has contributed to resources such as the Medication Safety Officer FTE Justification Toolkit, Autoverification Toolkit, and currently leads a workgroup developing a Standardize 4 Safety Implementation Toolkit. She has contributed to several peer re-views for ASHP publications.  She was an appointed Panel Reviewer for the ASHP Best Practice Awards and ASHP Foundation Medication Safety Scholars.

Director-at-Large Elect (2023-2024)

Sandeep Devabhakthuni, PharmD, BCCP

Sandeep DevabhakthuniSandeep Devabhakthuni is the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and Associate Professor at University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP). He serves as an inpatient clinical pharmacist at University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) since 2011. In 2019, he added an ambulatory care component by assisting in the outpatient heart transplant clinic. Previously, he was the Director of Postgraduate Training for University of Maryland Pharmacy Residency and Fellowship programs from 2016-2023. He co-founded the Applied Therapeutics, Research, and Instruction at University of Maryland (ATRIUM) collaborative, which is dedicated to optimizing management of cardiovascular diseases. 

Devabhakthuni earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and completed his PGY1 pharmacy residency at University of Maryland Medical Center and his PGY2 Cardiology Pharmacy Residency at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He has received the Preceptor of the Year and Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacy (MSHP) Pharmacist of the Year awards. Two UMSOP graduating classes recognized him as Teacher of the Year.

He has served as Director-at-Large and President of MSHP. His service to ASHP includes being the Vice-Chair and Chair for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP) Educational Steering Committee (ESC) as part of his six-year tenure. Dr. Devabhakthuni routinely reviews ASHP members’ curriculum vitae and posters. He has delivered 12 presentations nationally, including the ASHP National Pharmacy Preceptor Conference, Midyear Clinical Meeting, and webinars. Devabhakthuni has published 35 peer-reviewed articles and three book chapters and co-authored 45 national poster presentations.

Rena Sackett, PharmD, BCPS
Director, Member Relations
Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners

Rena SackettRena Sackett, PharmD, BCPS, serves as Director, Member Relations at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). In this role, she acts as the liaison for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners and leads the development and implementation of programs and initiatives for the Section. Prior to this role, she completed ASHP’s Executive Fellowship in Association Leadership and Management.

She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 2020 and earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Loma Linda University School of Pharmacy in 2019. She completed an elective rotation in national association management with ASHP and has served in a number of volunteer leadership capacities including as a delegate for the California Society of Health-System Pharmacists and volunteer on the Membership Committee for the Western Chapter of Pennsylvania Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
