Reasons for selecting this career path

I developed my love of critical care during my third year of pharmacy school in our critical care pharmacotherapy module at the University Of Kansas School Of Pharmacy. My passion for critical care was confirmed on my first APPE rotation in a MICU. I found the patients challenging and complex. Each patient was different from the one next door and none of them truly fit in to a guideline forcing you to critically think about each patient. My interest in critical care led me to complete a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency and a PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency at University of Kentucky (UK) HealthCare. Residency offered me a solid clinical foundation, taught me how to precept, and equipped me with the necessary tools to complete clinical research. I now continue down this career path to provide optimal care to patients, share my enthusiasm for patient care with pharmacy students and residents, and further our knowledge of ICU care but asking clinically important research questions.

Interest in the NPF Executive Committee

I have served on the New Practitioners Forum in a Work Group, as a Work Group Lead, and as an Advisory Group Chair. The people I worked with in those capacities and the projects we completed motivated me to become further involved. The ASHP New Practitioners Forum (NPF) has a unique role in developing New Practitioners of all backgrounds. I am excited to be involved at the Executive Committee level to work with New Practitioners to see and provide direction on all of the incredible work that will be completed by the advisory groups this coming year.

Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner

Being involved in the NPF has kept me connected with pharmacists in other specialties and has become my home as a New Practitioner. Through the NPF, I have networked with other New Practitioners across the country. This has led to leadership positions, speaking opportunities, and many new friendships.

This is the first time I have lived in a state that does not start with the letter K.
