How and why I became interested in being appointed to the Pharmacy Student Forum Executive Committee

My interest in ASHP began early in my pharmacy career. Through serving my local chapter at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy as President-Elect and President and serving on the Pharmacy Student Forum Policy and Legislative Advocacy Advisory Group, I was inspired by the impact this organization can make on student development. These positions have played a significant role in my professional and personal development, and I wanted to give back to the organization and foster similar opportunity for other students. The Executive Committee affords the opportunity to expand my personal network, further develop my leadership. skills and support student member involvement to enhance their development and shape their future in the profession. I look forward to sharing my passion for ASHP and professional development with student pharmacists!

How being a member of ASHP has assisted in my personal and professional development

ASHP has contributed to my development in countless ways. The organization has provided unique opportunities to engage with influential student pharmacists and clinicians to expand my personal and professional network. Additionally, I have developed confidence in not only my leadership abilities, but also in myself as a student pharmacist. This professional organization has pushed me out of my comfort zone as both a leader and student member. For example, had I not been encouraged by a mentor to attend the Advocacy Bootcamp last year, I may not have discovered my passion for professional advocacy. Finally, the resources provided by ASHP, such as the CV Review Program and mentorship program, have contributed significantly to my professional development.

Goals for the year as a PSFEC Member

  • Enhance student member engagement within ASHP at a local, regional and national level.
  • Provide programming and resources to enhance the professional development of student members, specifically first and second year students.
  • Provide resources to educate student members on the importance of advocacy and how to advocate for our profession on a local, regional and national level.
  • Provide resources for career exploration and development within health-system pharmacy.
  • Empower student members to expand their personal and professional network.

Fun fact

I have a 3 year old Australian Shepherd named Addie. She was named after one of the characters, Addison Shepherd, from my favorite TV show, Grey’s Anatomy. I hope to one day adopt a sister puppy and name her Amelia.
