Facility:
Aultman Alliance Community Hospital (AACH) is a 120-bed small and rural hospital located in Alliance, OH. In addition to inpatient pharmacy services, AACH is proud to serve the community through the MEDS Clinic, a pharmacist-based ambulatory care clinic, offering care in diabetes, anticoagulation, COPD/asthma, and smoking cessation. AACH's Employee Pharmacy serves Aultman employees, families, and patients being discharged from the hospital.
Current Responsibilities:
I am responsible for the internal medicine service, and I am the PGY1 Residency Program Director at AACH. I precept P1, P2, and P4 students from NEOMED, Ohio Northern University, and other local colleges of pharmacy. In addition to internal medicine I and II rotations, I precept the medication use and safety longitudinal rotation for the residency program.
Recent Significant Projects:
Well-being is a topic I am passionate about. I check in on the status of the residents' well-being while also considering the wellness of the pharmacy department. I have completed the ASHP Well Being Ambassador certificate program and have since begun developing a monthly well-being email distributed to the department, as well as a separate monthly communication for members of the residency program. I would like to continue to be a Well-Being Ambassador by initiating well-being activities and sharing wellness information and resources with the pharmacy department.
Advice for Someone New to a Specialty Area:
Seek opportunities to learn or help. From my first job to my current, I have volunteered my time to be exposed to the unfamiliar. This has helped me to get involved in new activities and grow as a practitioner.
Involvement with ASHP:
As a Residency Program Director, I attend ASHP's Midyear Clinical Meeting annually. That is how I first learned about ASHP's Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners (SICP) Section Advisory Groups (SAG). I applied for a position on the group and was appointed.
Reason for ASHP involvement:
This is my first year on the Small and Rural Hospitals SAG. I am passionate about the Small and Rural Hospitals SAG as this is the setting I have always worked in. I look forward to continuing my involvement in this SAG and advancing the practice of pharmacy in this setting.
Value of ASHP for Peers or Colleagues:
ASHP provides me with information and resources I would not be able to access without membership. I have joined several ASHP Connect groups that pertain to my practice, including Residency Program Directors, Inpatient Care Practitioners, and Medication Safety. I appreciate that members can connect, share ideas, and collaborate through this online community.
Value of ASHP for the Profession:
I appreciate the opportunity of being involved nationally in a pharmacy organization. I feel that attending Midyear and being a part of the Small and Rural Hospital SAG helps me be aware of important topics in pharmacy.
