John E. Murphy, Pharm.D., joined ASHP in 1976. “ASHP has always been a leader in advancing the profession and representing positive change for pharmacists,” he said.
John’s interest in pharmacy began while watching his pharmacist grandfather care for patients, and that interest led to a lifetime love for the profession. Currently a Professor and Associate Dean at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, John has been involved in academics for more than 40 years. “I love working with students and helping to create the next generations of pharmacists,” he said.
He is particularly proud of establishing a private practice pharmacokinetic-dosing service and advancing pharmacokinetic dosing and practice.
John has held several leadership positions at ASHP, including President of ASHP (1997–1998) and member of the Board of Directors (1993–1996). “ASHP is a special organization because of the wonderful staff and members who are dedicated to improving the care of patients,” he said.
