When Melody Sanchez, Pharm.D., M.H.A., was first introduced to the field of pharmacy during a career fair in college, she thought, “I could do this for the rest of my life.”
Fast-forward 15 years and Dr. Sanchez is now a pharmacist at the Texas County Memorial Hospital in the greater St. Louis area.
She first joined ASHP as a student pharmacist and took full advantage of everything ASHP membership has to offer, including attending the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting. “The first time I went, I felt like I was bursting with knowledge,” said Dr. Sanchez. “I loved the fact that you could ask questions.”
One of Dr. Sanchez’s proudest career moments was when she co-authored an article for a pharmacy magazine about anticoagulants during a rotation. Two years later, one of Dr. Sanchez’s students cited the article. “The student was amazed that I was among some of the many great pharmacists that we worked with,” said Dr. Sanchez.
Dr. Sanchez is a big supporter of ASHP membership. She often tells students who would like to follow in her footsteps to “definitely become a member of ASHP.” She added that ASHP gives her the education and networking opportunities she needs to practice at the top of her license in a rural setting.
