Director of Accreditation and Medication Safety

Wilkes Barre, PA

ASHP MEMBER SINCE 1975

Patricia C. Kienle, R.Ph., M.P.A., FASHP, considers ASHP her professional home. She has been a member since 1975, when she started her first job after graduating from pharmacy school. “One of my professors said that the dues we pay to professional organizations are the rent we pay for taking up space in the profession,” said Patricia. “Although that sounds harsh, he instilled in us the responsibility to participate in pharmacy associations.”

Being a member of ASHP has allowed Patricia, who is the Director of Accreditation and Medication Safety at Cardinal Health in Wilkes Barre, Pa., to practice pharmacy at the highest level. In fact, she was the recipient of the 2014 ASHP Award for Distinguished Pharmacy Leadership. “I have been able to work with great people, and have had amazing opportunities — many though ASHP connections — to work on projects that influence our practice,” she said. “I've stayed an ASHP member for more than 40 years because of the value ASHP brings to individuals and practice.”

Over the years, Patricia, has volunteered her time to many ASHP committees and work groups. She served as a Pennsylvania delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates and as member of the Board of Directors. She is a frequent speaker with special interests in promoting medication safety, accreditation, and regulatory issues in pharmacy, as well as providing pharmacy services in integrated health systems. Patricia is also an author of several ASHP publications, including The Chapter <800> Answer Book.
