Commander (CDR) Sara Doran-Atchison, Pharm.D., M.P.H., NCPS, is incredibly proud to serve as a pharmacist in the United States Public Health Service. She is currently stationed at the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska, where she is the Quality Improvement Pharmacy Manager.

Sara became interested in pharmacy while she was a high school student. “My grandmother had several chronic and acute issues, which led her to be on numerous medications,” she said. “I was always interested in her medications and how each one worked.”

Sara joined ASHP more than 14 years ago. “I continue to stay a member of ASHP because I value the educational and professional opportunities, the ability to network with others in my profession, and the support, advocacy, and guidance that ASHP offers for the profession of pharmacy,” she said.

Her most memorable ASHP moment was attending her first Midyear Clinical Meeting in 2004. “I was amazed with the number of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians that attended the meeting and all of the excitement surrounding the profession,” she said.

Sara served on the ASHP House of Delegates as a delegate for Alaska from 2015–2016. She currently serves on the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners, Section Advisory Group on Medication Safety.
