Sarah Deines, Pharm.D., BCACP, can trace her career in pharmacy back to her mother. “My mother had me meet with her client who was a pharmacist,” she recalled. “Her passion for her work as a community pharmacist, specifically her relationships with patients and medical providers, was inspiring.”
Sarah is the Pharmacy Operations Manager and PGY1 Residency Program Director at the Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center in Hillsboro, Ore. “I joined ASHP as a student and served on the Commission on Affiliate Relations during my final year of school,” she said.
Sarah stayed engaged with ASHP by participating in Section Advisory Groups and by attending and speaking at the National Pharmacy Preceptors Conference. “Maintaining my membership in ASHP provides access to mentorship, advocacy, and inspiration, as well as invaluable resources for clinical and residency practices,” she said.
She particularly enjoys participating in ASHP’s regional House of Delegates meetings and attending the national House of Delegates sessions. “It is fascinating to hear policy proposals advancing the profession of pharmacy and educational to learn about other practice settings and how policies will affect pharmacists around the country,” said Sarah, who currently serves as the Oregon delegate to the ASHP House of Delegates.
