Reasons for selecting this career path
As a pharmacy intern at the University of Kansas Health-System I had the opportunity to work closely with several of the Health-System Pharmacy Administration residents. Through exposure to this type of residency, different pharmacy management roles, and the opportunity to collaborate on projects, I identified my strong interest in pharmacy operations and leadership. Through the completion of an HSPA residency program, I continued to develop my leadership skills and interest in pharmacy management. The opportunity to design systems, utilize data to drive continuous performance improvement, and develop and mentor others, motivate me to practice in pharmacy management and optimize the delivery of patient-centered care.

Interest in the NPF Executive Committee
During my time as a new practitioner, I have had the opportunity to serve on three different New Practitioners Forum Advisory Groups. Through serving on these different advisory groups I was able to gain a broader understanding of each of the different Advisory Groups and the value they provide to ASHP members. I hope to assist in identifying future initiatives and the development of strategic objectives which meet the needs of new practitioners and align with the mission and vision of ASHP.

Benefits of being involved in ASHP as a New Practitioner
The ASHP New Practitioners Forum is a great way to get involved in pharmacy at a national level, further develop leadership skills, and stay up-to-date on pertinent topics within the profession. The Advisory Groups provide opportunities to work on meaningful and impactful projects that can aid new practitioners during the transition from student to pharmacist. Involvement in the ASHP New Practitioners Forum also provides many valuable opportunities to network with other motivated and engaged pharmacists from across the country and to learn from their experiences and practice sites.

Fun Fact
My first car, which was also my mom’s first car, was a red 1965 Mustang.
