Professional Interests

My professional interests include moving the pharmacy profession forward so that pharmacists may practice at the top of their license, precepting learners, expanding pharmacy patient services, and improving pharmacist use of technology and the medical record (such as Beacon implementations).

I am most passionate about providing patients with the best care possible and creating that longitudinal connection with patients.  I want every patient to be able to say they know the pharmacist on their care team, and instantly know who to contact for questions and concerns.  I love being a part of each patient’s cancer care, and I hope I am able to make it a little bit easier for them.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

I wanted to be able to impact future pharmacists. The transition between pharmacy school, residency, and becoming a new practitioner is hard, and I thought I could help others in that transition while learning and developing myself in the process.

What would you tell others if asked how to get involved with ASHP?

Become involved in any way that you can!  Networking is important, but try to become involved even in small ways.  Join webinars, ask questions, teach others based on your own experiences.  The right opportunity will come your way!

What unique characteristics and perspectives do you bring to your everyday work or the pharmacy profession?

As a fellow oncology patient, I like to bring a clear focus on patient care to my pharmacy practice.  I strive to help patients feel supported throughout their oncology care, knowing that they have a pharmacist who they can reach out to with any questions or concerns.  In addition, as a bilingual healthcare provider fluent in Spanish, I hope to bring the same level of care to my Spanish speaking patients, as well as helping to focus our efforts in providing the same care to all patients, no matter what barriers may present themselves.

What do you like to do for fun? What are some of your interests/hobbies outside of pharmacy?

I enjoy trying new restaurants, traveling, playing with my niece and nephews, and going to musicals, plays, and concerts!  A fun fact about me is that I love penguins and have 3 paintings done by penguins!

What advice would you give to other new practitioners?

Continue to push yourself out of your comfort zone!  Try new things that will allow you to learn and grow!
