Why I do what I do:
The reason and meaning behind why I even pursued a career in the pharmacy/healthcare field has not changed. I wanted to contribute to a bigger goal of safely caring for others. I found my skill and contribution when I became a technician and more specifically in IV compounding. My prior experience as an inpatient technician led to my current role as an educator and being able to assist in safety practices for fellow pharmacy technicians. My experience as a pharmacy technician has also shown me that healthcare is challenging, rewarding, and educational all at once and there is always an opportunity to be involved.

Latest Accomplishment: 
My latest accomplishment is serving on the ASHP Pharmacy Technician Forum Membership Outreach and eCommunications Advisory Group. I believe the ASHP Pharmacy Technician Forum advisory groups are a great way to be active in the larger technician community and advocate for advancing the pharmacy technician career.

Most Memorable Experience as a Pharmacy Technician: 
I worked in a cancer treatment facility for a number of years and routinely experienced patient interactions. During one such interaction, I was talking with a patient who survived late stage brain cancer. To hear the patient’s outlook on life and treatment was truly inspiring and humbling.

Why I Became Certified?: 
At the time, I was coming from a different career background and felt it was important to have the most advanced preparation and knowledge that was offered. Now I see it was a step toward establishing the technician profession and continuing my commitment to quality care.

My Passion Outside of Work or Hobbies: 
My wife and I enjoy meeting up friends, trying new cuisine and attending events in the greater Philadelphia region. Also, being a long time baseball fan, I enjoy catching a game or reading about the history of the sport.

Advice to Up-and-Coming Technicians: 
Be involved, whether that is in your current role or participating in professional associations. Continued involvement can challenge what limitations you may think you have and advance your career. It is also a great way to network with others who share the same professional goals as you.
