Dr. Woods currently serves as Chair of the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners Advisory Group on  Medication Management Services. She has served as an active member on ASHP advisory groups for 10 years.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?
Like many others, I became involved with ASHP as a student to learn more about health-system pharmacy and to have access to the many resources available for pursuing a pharmacy residency. I found that after graduating pharmacy school ASHP continued to offer resources for every stage of my career from a new practitioner to a pharmacy leader and beyond.

Advice for Someone New to Specialty Area
Appreciate the value of other disciplines on the care team and nurture a true collaborative environment. Patients benefit when the walls between our disciplines come down and we can share our knowledge and expertise freely to create the best possible care plan for the patient.

Always put the patient at the center of your decision making. No plan of care will be successful without the patient being engaged and able to participant in the plan.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?
ASHP offers members many opportunities for career development, networking, continuing education, and leadership. They provide diverse resources on pharmacy practice models and best practices.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?
ASHP plays a critical role in the advancement of pharmacy practice on a national level through its policy and advocacy efforts. The commitment of ASHP to advance pharmacy practice and optimize medication therapy outcomes benefits our profession, the healthcare system and patients.
