His Story

Dr. Takahashi received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Southern California in 1989 and completed an Inpatient Clinical Residency in 1990.

Dr. Takahashi has a Pediatric Ambulatory Care Practice with an emphasis on pediatric infusions and chemotherapy management. He is also co-lead for asthma care services within his medical center.  Dr. Takahashi serves as an APPE preceptor and the APPE Coordinator for the medical center and associated pharmacies.

Describe the facility where you work (eg. Is it a teaching hospital? Health Center? 

Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Medical Center is a tertiary care teaching hospital for the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Region. The 560 bed facility is home to medical residency programs in pediatrics, family medicine, internal medicine, gynecology, surgery as well as fellowships including allergy geriatrics, community medicine, gynecology-oncology, neuro-oncology, and palliative care. The Los Angeles Medical Center is also home to the longest running pharmacy residency program in Kaiser Permanente, Southern California.

Recent Significant Projects

Dr. Takahashi is involved with medical residency research in the areas of asthma management as well as continued participation in Children's Oncology Group clinical trials.  He is the co-chair for the Asthma Coalition of Los Angeles County - Los Angeles County Department of Health

Initial Involvement in ASHP

Dr. Takahashi is a member of the Section of Ambulatory Care Practitioners Advisory Group on Clinical Practice Advancement.

Why did you become involved in ASHP? 

Dr. Takahashi's involvement in ASHP started as a student member and evolved as he became more engaged as an officer of the California Society.

Learn from your colleagues, ask questions - Pediatric Oncology is challenging.

How would you explain the value of ASHP to a friend or colleague?

ASHP provides a forum at the national level for topics and situations that can be considered opportunities as well as concerns for the future of pharmacy practice.

What is the value of ASHP for the profession?

ASHP is the national hub for interaction with the other facets of pharmacy practice as well as other health professions. The advocacy at the nation's capitol is vital for promoting the practice of pharmacy.
