Jill S. Bates is an Oncology Precision Therapeutics Pharmacist at the University of North Carolina Medical Center. She is also the national PHASeR Pharmacy Program Manager for pharmacogenomics with the Department of Veterans Affairs and is an Associate Professor of Clinical Education at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. She is an experienced leader in clinical pharmacy practice, oncology pharmacy, and residency training, and has a passion for advancing pharmacy practice through education rooted in the belief that learning improves lives.

Dr. Bates received a BS from Eastern Illinois University, MS in biochemistry and biophysics from Northern Illinois University, and Pharm.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She completed residencies in pharmacy practice and oncology at Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Bates has served ASHP in a variety of capacities including in leadership roles. She has served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Council on Therapeutics, Chair of the Section of Clinical Specialists and Scientists Executive Committee and was a member of the Women in Pharmacy Leadership Committee. In addition to ASHP, Dr. Bates is an active member of the Hematology Oncology Pharmacist Association (HOPA). She has served on multiple committees, was part of a task force evaluating the scope of practice for oncology pharmacists, and was principle investigator for a study funded by HOPA evaluating pharmacist-led consultative services for first cycle chemotherapy education and medication management. She was recognized for her achievements when she was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Milton W. Skolaut leadership award bestowed by Duke University Medical Center and designated as an ASHP Fellow in 2018.
