Nancy Hope Goodbar

Nancy’s Story

Nancy H. Goodbar, Pharm.D., BCPS, is Assistant Dean for Professional and Student Affairs and Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy in Clinton, SC. Dr. Goodbar received her Bachelor of Science degree from Presbyterian College in 2004 and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of South Carolina in 2008. She completed two years of residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, specializing in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Goodbar received the 2015 Teacher of the Year Award at Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy and was awarded the 2012 George D. Schwern Mentor Award which was presented by the South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SCSHP). Dr. Goodbar is involved in scholarly activities related to patient outcomes and educational research. She has published numerous research articles, case reports, and columns in national peer-reviewed journals, as well as presented clinical and educational research posters at state and national pharmacy meetings. She is committed to serving her community as a Board member for the Laurens County Healthcare Foundation, a volunteer at the free medical clinic, and a member of the College Ministries Committee and the Preschool Board at First Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Goodbar serves on the Executive Board of Directors for the SCSHP, served as President for 2015-2016 and is currently Immediate Past President. Prior to her Presidency, she served SCSHP on the Board as a Regional Director as well as Coordinator for Trainee Development. She proposed, presented, and executed a plan to establish a Junior Board Member Program within the Society which is now in its third year of offering more students the opportunity for statewide leadership. She has served on the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Council on Education and Workforce Development for 2 years, where she has been actively involved in national pharmacy advocacy. She was recently appointed as a member of the ASHP Clinical Specialists and Scientists Section Advisory Group on Clinical Leadership for a second year, as well as represented Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy at the national American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy as their faculty Delegate.

Facility

Dr. Goodbar’s place of employment is a private institution with a Pharm.D. curriculum. It has an average of 70 students per class, and provides numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth as well as a curriculum to create a solid foundational pharmacy knowledge base.

Significant Projects

Dr. Goodbar has been working on numerous publications around the topic of pharmacogenomics and will be presenting posters on this topic at AACP this year. She is also writing a PSAP chapter on Acute Kidney Injury and Dialysis.

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

“My advice to someone new to my specialty area would be to never stop learning. Never think anything is impossible. Never close the door on any opportunity, because you never know where your path may lead you. I never thought I would end up in academia- my dream job was to be a clinical pharmacist in a teaching hospital.”
