Clinical Inpatient Pharmacist

His Story

Dr. Cramer earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2020 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy. Following graduation, Dr. Cramer began his pharmacy career as an inpatient pharmacist at Boone Health in Columbia, MO. He is from a small town of Cole Camp, MO with a population of less than 1,500. Being from a small town, he recognizes the healthcare disparities that many rural individuals face. He was recently appointed to serve on the Small and Rural Hospitals Section Advisory Group, where he plans to continue focusing on serving rural populations.

Dr. Cramer serves as a Clinical Inpatient Pharmacist at Boone Health. During his time at Boone Health, Dr. Cramer has had the opportunity to establish and lead their Opioid Stewardship Committee. He currently assists with nursing education regarding appropriate medication use and administration, along with stroke education and training. Dr. Cramer actively precepts APPE and IPPE students from UMKC School of Pharmacy.

Recent Significant Projects

Over the past six months I have been able to establish and lead the first Opioid Stewardship Committee at Boone Health. Our first initiative with the committee was our Fentanyl Waste Reduction Initiative where we have reduced our overall fentanyl waste by nearly 50% through the employment of vial and syringe size optimization.

Current Involvement in ASHP

I was recently chosen to serve on the Small and Rural Hospitals Section Advisory Group for the Section of Inpatient Care Practitioners. I am hoping to continue building upon my leadership skills and to help contribute back to the profession with this appointment. I am also participating in the Well-Being Ambassador program to help further my understanding of mental health and the complexities surrounding burnout within healthcare professions.

Why did you become involved in ASHP?

I became involved with ASHP during my time in pharmacy school to further grow my leadership skills and expand my knowledge of the pharmacy profession.
