Initial Involvement in ASHP

“ASHP membership grants us access to a community of practitioners who expand the practice of pharmacy every day. As a student, I joined ASHP to remain informed about new research and current issues within our profession. As my career progressed, ASHP became the place where I caught up with pharmacy friends from across the nation. I was able to network with new practitioners and other pharmacy leaders. Each ASHP meetings became a resource to reconnect, investigate, and discover new ideas and technology.”

Advice for Someone New to Your Specialty Area

“The rate of change in our profession is extraordinary. When evaluating change, use the patient as your guiding compass. Is the patient at the center of our decisions? Are the changes advancing patient care? If the answer to those questions is “Yes", support the change wholeheartedly. Our profession and our patients will be better off for your effort.”

Value of ASHP

“ASHP provides access to a community of practitioners who are focused on our patients and our profession. Our profession is blessed with a myriad of disciplines, each of which requires special knowledge and training. ASHP provides a forum in which each area of pharmacy can be represented and given a platform from which information can be disseminated and practice guidance can be discerned.” “ASHP combines the voices of the pharmacy disciplines to provide the profession of pharmacy a voice loud enough to be heard in the halls of government. ASHP provides structure for our post-graduate residency training programs. ASHP oversees the match process as well as the site credentialing structure. ASHP provides an outlet for publication for pharmacy-centric research. And finally, ASHP provides a community that allows student, new practitioner, and experienced practitioners to mingle, meet and greet, forming new relationships that last a lifetime.”
