Biographical Information:

Dr. Claire Latiolais graduated from Purdue University with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in 2015. She went on to complete an ASHP accredited Health-System Pharmacy Administration residency in The Houston Program at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX. Along with this program, she completed her Master’s in Pharmacy Leadership and Administration from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. 

Current employment, practice, and academic responsibilities:

She joined the faculty at The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy (UTCOP) in 2018 and served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the department of Pharmacy Practice. Her role included serving as the Course Coordinator for the Institutional Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (I-IPPE). Additionally, her responsibilities included teaching Drug Information, Applied Pharmacy Management, Clinical Skills, Hospital Pharmacy, as well as serving as the Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SSHP) faculty advisor and Chair of the Admissions Committee. In the fall of 2022, Dr. Latiolais transitioned into a new role at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist on the Medication Management and Informatics team. Her role includes coordination of the P&T committee, management of the formulary, management of drug shortages, operational implementation of new medications, and serving as a drug information resource. In addition, Dr. Latiolais continued an appointment with UTCOP as the Experiential Regional Director for Galveston/Houston. In this role she coordinates all APPE rotations in the region and serves as a regional contact for the students.

Professional Engagement & SPE 

Dr. Latiolais is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). From 2015- 2019 she served on the New Practitioners Forum as a member and work group lead. In 2019-2020 she served on the New Practitioners Forum Executive Committee. She joined the Education Affairs Council in 2022 and now serves as the Vice-Chair of the Advisory Group on the Development of Student Education and Learning Experiences within the Education Affairs Council.

ASHP & Pharmacy Education. 

ASHP has been Dr. Latiolais' professional home starting in residency. It has provided her with an avenue to network and develop working relationships with pharmacists and colleagues across the country.

Professional Advice 

It is important to get involved and give back to the profession. Join a committee or task force on the state and national level. It provides lasting relationships and opportunities to advance the profession of pharmacy through many avenues. Also, take the time to mentor and invest in students! They are the future of our profession.
