Sarah Eudaley

Pharm.D., BCPS

Assistant Professor

University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy

Knoxville, TN

Biographical Information:

Dr. Eudaley received her PharmD from the University of Tennessee, then went on to complete a PGY1 pharmacy residency followed by a PGY2 Pharmacotherapy specialty residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and UT Health Science Center College of Pharmacy. She has been a full-time faculty member since completing post-graduate training, teaching in both the classroom and precepting rotation students. Her passion is teaching and has been recognized by her students for excellence in teaching, most recently as the recipient of the full-time faculty preceptor of the year in 2018.

Current employment, practice, and academic responsibilities:

Dr. Eudaley is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Translational Science at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Pharmacy (UTHSC COP). She holds an adjunct faculty appointment in the Department of Family Medicine in the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine. She practices with the inpatient Family Medicine service at the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is involved in medication therapy optimization initiatives in the outpatient Family Medicine resident clinic. Dr. Eudaley currently serves as the Program Director for the 24-month Pharmacotherapy residency, which closely aligns with the Family Medicine residency program and has a heavy emphasis in academia.

Significant projects and accomplishments:

With the shift from in-person classes to virtual learning in 2020, the Ambulatory Care elective Dr. Eudaley coordinates for third year student pharmacists was moved to synchronous virtual delivery. The Ambulatory Care elective is delivered using team-based learning (TBL). Because of the value of TBL, Dr. Eudaley moved forward with offering the elective synchronously using on-line platform, which was very challenging, but was well-received by the students. This was a great learning experience for Dr. Eudaley and her PGY2 pharmacotherapy resident who helped with coordination of the course.

Professional Engagement & SPE Please describe your professional involvement with ASHP.

Dr. Eudaley joined ASHP as a student pharmacist and has continued membership since finishing post-graduate training. Her involvement in ASHP is largely based in resident education since she serves as a residency program director. She is passionate about pharmacy education and has been a speaker for the ASHP National Pharmacy Preceptors Conference. Because of her interests and her 10 years of experience in academic pharmacy, becoming involved in the Section of Pharmacy Educators was a perfect fit.

Share your thoughts on ASHP’s value as a professional organization in contributing to the education of the pharmacy workforce? What do you think are some key success, resources, and opportunities?

ASHP is key in maintaining standards for post-graduate pharmacy education through the residency accreditation process. The resources available in guiding residency programs and program directors in achieving and maintaining excellence are highly valuable. Additionally, ASHP has done a great job creating and maintaining the Preceptor Toolkit to provide opportunities for learning and guidance for preceptors across the country.

What advice would you provide for individuals new to your area of practice?

One piece of advice I would have for new clinical faculty, especially those starting at institutions outside of post-graduate training, is to get to know the culture at both the College and your practice. Come in with an open mind and get to know people. Through relationships, you will be able to identify areas of need and opportunities for growth. Building relationships is key to success.
